Medical Mission

Dr. Gagan Sabharwal is not only one of the best oral and maxillofacial surgeons but also a prominent humanitarian who has helped hundreds of underprivileged children around the world. He began his career in 2008 in New Delhi and has since been providing free reconstructive facial surgery to those in need. Dr. Sabharwal emphasizes his voluntary experience with American non-profit organizations Alliance for Smiles, Rotaplast International, and Operation Smile, which have collectively changed the lives of millions of children through free surgery.

Dr. Sabharwal has engaged in medicine as part of more than 25 medical missions to underdeveloped countries over the past decade. He visited various ethnic regions of the world to provide services at his expense. In India, he created a small non-profit organization that raises funds to conduct similarly free operations in underdeveloped countries and poor regions of the country. Dr. Sabharwal has consulted in approximately 25 clinics in and around Delhi NCR and joined the Fortis Group in April 2009 as a visiting consultant.

At Fortis Memorial Research Institute, he has collaborated with a host of other specialists in other disciplines to treat complex maxillofacial deformities, tumors, and facial trauma. His decision to pursue a career in maxillofacial surgery came about during his dental school years. He then sought further specialization in implantology and a fellowship from Genova University in Italy, following his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences in Mangalore. The A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences is a well-known research center that caters to cleft lip and palate patients. Dr. Sabharwal has said that he finds working in these areas most gratifying because the chance to make a significant impact in a child’s life with a single surgery that restores his smile and permits him to live a normal life is rewarding.
